Teeth and Ties

There are a few annoying things about parenthood. Tonight, that annoying thing happens to be Ethan's teeth. He had two knocked out at school today, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Sheesh! So it's now 10:30 and we've only recently gotten home from our hunt for decent clothing, and Ethan and Cameron are still wide awake in their room. Which means I have to stay up until they are sound asleep so I can perform tooth fairy duties. And losing two in one day? I just hope I have two dollars! And now I'm wishing that my kids were dumb enough to be excited by a dime.

Andrew and I are going to some kind of business dinner at the Deer Valley ski resort on Saturday night, and it's not the kind of restaurant that would consider my jeans and hoodie motif appropriate, so I had to go get something more suitable. Andrew, too, since his wardrobe consists of shrunken, faded t-shirts and warm up pants, with and without holes in the crotch. We found Stew a nice blue dress shirt on clearance for $7.37 and a tie at Macy's for $25. Why are ties so expensive? That was the cheapest one we could find!

I was on the prowl for a "little black dress". It's long overdue. I need something to wear to Phantom when we're in NY as well, so I was hoping for something that could be dressed up or down and could be paired with any piece of quirky jewelry that is hibernating in my grandmother's antique jewelry box. There are necklaces in there that I am dying to wear.

I found a red dress and a black dress. Long story short, I liked both, but Andrew and I both favored the black. I went to pay for it and it rang up twenty dollars more than the red dress. The red dress won. And none of my jewelry will go with it. So sad.

Are they asleep yet?? I am fading!

  1. Knocked out, or fell out. One means it will be a while before they come back in..... Glad you found a dress.

  2. both teeth were slightly loose, but not ready to pop out on their own. Nothin a little first grade whoopin' won't take care of.

  3. Well, Ethan seems happy about it anyway! Did they ever fall asleep?
I'm glad you guys were able to find some suitable clothes. I had to go on my own hunt for a little black dress a few years ago for an awards banquet in Vegas. It was before we had kids, so I splurged and bought one at Nordstroms for way more than I have ever paid for a single item of clothing. But I loved it. And I wear it every chance I get. Which, I admit, isn't as often as I'd like. Oh well.
    Hope you guys have fun!

  5. I can't believe he got two teeth knocked out at two different times! Kinda like the time Ben got stung by a bee at recess almost every day for a week...

Did you guys have fun on Saturday night? And, of course, the burning question, was the seafood edible and did you get food poisoning from it?

BTW, I cannot reitterate (spelling?) this enough: DI, DI, DI! It is my favorite store ever and they totally have evening gowns (and wedding dresses, and men's ties, and kids shoes and jeans that they grow out of so quickly, and used couches which may or may not contain baby rats like the one my aunt bought, but that's beside the point...).
