Annie and Me

It's time for Five Question Friday with Mama M! Why? Because all the cool kids are doing it. Duh.

Rules for Five Question Friday
: Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post, answer them, then c'mon back to link up! If you don't have a blog (or already wrote a post), but would like to play along, feel free to leave your answers in the comments below!

1. Did you have a favorite blanket or toy as a kid? If so, do you still have it? Paper dolls were some of my favorites as a kid, but I really only have one thing left that means a lot to me. You see, when I was about six, my older sister and I were in love with the movie, Annie. We adored it. Daddy Warbucks was a dream, Grace was the most beautiful woman in the universe, and Annie was the luckiest kid in the history of the world. We watched the movie over and over, sang all the songs, and cried when Punjab rescued Annie from certain death. My mom knew that this was a big deal for us, and so she made life-size Annie dolls for us for Christmas, complete with her entire wardrobe. (Except for maybe the swim suit.) Here - I'll show you. (Forgive the bad quality - it's dark in here and I just snapped these off really quick.)

Ahh, the dress from the final scene. "I'm poor as a mouse!....I'm rich as a midas...." I seem to have lost her belt.

The nightgown that Daddy Warbucks helped Grace put on Annie after the movie...

The orphan outfit, complete with cleaning apron.

Annie's karate uniform. There's even shoes, in case you hadn't noticed.

You get the idea. My mom is amazing.

2. Do you dream in color? I do. But I rarely remember my dreams. The ones I do remember are vague and either about horrible things happening to my family, or old crushes from high school. Both are somewhat disturbing.

3. How tall are you? Do you wish you were shorter or taller? I am 5'10 1/4". I've always had a little trouble finding pants that are long enough, but I get to help little old ladies at the grocery store who can't reach the cans on the top shelf. I used to hate being tall - especially in middle school and high school when I towered over everyone and had to envy the petite girls who looked so cute and could wear high heels to dances and not be nick-named "The Jolly Green Giant" or something equally sinister. But the older I got, the more I came to appreciate my height. I wouldn't change it at all now. And I really can't complain with a sister who's 6 foot 2. Her pants have to be special ordered and cost her a fortune.

4. If you could have anyone's (celeb or other) voice as the guide on your GPS, who would it be? I don't have GPS, but if I could have a celebrity wake up call on my alarm clock, I would want it to be Chris Farley yelling, "If you don't get out of bed RIGHT NOW, you're going to end up living in a VAN down by the RIVER!!" Because that would be an excellent start to the day. Excellent.

5. Do you return your shopping cart to the corral or leave it wherever in the parking lot? I always return it, because seriously, how hard is it to do the right thing?

The format on this thing today is so jacked-up, but I can't fix it. So I guess we'll all have to deal.

  1. I'm a cart returner too! In fact I always park right next to it...even if there are closer spots because I can pop everyone in their car seats and then return the cart without hoofing it across the lot while the boys bake inside the car. :) There have been times that for whatever reason i couldn't return the cart and I always felt so guilty leaving it out there to block spots or potentially roll into another car.

And I can't believe you still have all of Annie's outfits! Awesome. :)

  4. Dang, your mom is GOOD. My kids will have to be okay with Barbies from Wal Mart.

And The Jolly Green Giant, eh? THAT is amusing.

  5. Wow! Your mom is excellent! You could act out the whole movie! What a sweet thing for her to take the time to do!
And I'm a cart returner too. It takes less than a minute, why wouldn't you? Not returning it always screams, "My time is more important than yours happless bag boy."

  7. One time I did not return the shopping cart because Alex was freaking out and I still feel a little bad about it. I mean, just do it, you know? So I failed once but I shall not fail again. Because it's such a stupid thing for me to be upset about...can't be upset if I just do it.

  8. Woah! Your mom is the coolest!

Here's another reason we would be friends in real life: I am 5'10 too! And I was totally called "Jolly Green Giant" by my stupid little 5 foot nothing friends. Haha!

    I return carts too. Sweet.

  9. Hello fellow cart returner!

Isn't it crazy, how hyper aware we were of our bodies as teenagers? Craziness.

Oh, and one more thing...I'd like an Annie Doll for Christmas too please. With matching clothes. Or...will you just share your mom with me? ;)

  10. I LOVED Annie. It really is one of the best movies...hands down! Your mom is awesome. I want one of those dolls. Is she taking orders??

And, thank you for returning your cart. For reals, that's for my sister who use to work at Costco on cart duty!!

  11. I'm a cart returner, too. I loved your Chris Farley idea! And you were a serious Annie fan with all those outfits!!

Dude, I can't believe you are that tall. I don't know why I'd think you were short since I only know you over the internet, but the 5'10 really wowed me!
