Friday Flick Picker - Testosterone Abounds

Time again for everybody's favorite movie reviewer!....

**********************

Hello everybody, nice seeing you again!

Since our last adventure, I have been in the mood for some rough and tumble entertainment!

My first movie critique was of a chick flick, my second, a mutual flick. This week, I will go over 2 movies that I have seen. I bring you 2 DUDE FLICKS!!!

GREEN ZONE circa 2010 Rated R for language and war violence
Starring Matt Damon, Jason Isaacs, Greg Kinear

My wife surprised me with this "eh, hem" movie that she had picked out at the Red Box earlier in the day. I was taken aback.....

OK - so, if you don't like cussing, that alone is reason not to watch this movie. If the sight of violence makes you sick, well, you should be okay - all things considered this war movie was pretty tame. If you didn't like the format that was used to film the Bourne Identity movies - that is to say - no use of booms or stable pictures, and every shot was done with a hand held camera - DO NOT SEE THIS FILM!!! I was sea sick by about minute 13. (The director does this style because he wants to give you that "first hand" experience.) You do eventually get used to it, but it takes a while. I counted 78 F-Bombs before I lost count in the final 25 minute action scene, where I am sure there were at least that many dropped again....

On another note. If you do NOT like movies that have an agenda to get you to be ashamed to be an American, DO NOT WATCH THIS FILM! It took until the last 5 minutes to come back around and at least make you feel that it's OK to be a citizen of our country. Shame on Matt Damon!!

I rate this film at 1 1/2 Schnauzers out of 7 (Only because Matt Damon is a great actor!)

The next film I saw was:

THE EXPENDABLES circa 2010 Rated R for violence, language
Directed by Sylvester Stallone
Starring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolf Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Jet Li
Appearances by Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger
And others you would recognize!

I liked this film. Take the humor of Tango and Cash, the gore and violence of Rambo and the genre of The Dirty Dozen, Kelly's Heroes and The Great Escape and mix them together and I bring you, The Expendables!

Lots of laughs, lots of violence, Big Owees, and a good plot and story line. It was fun to see this many action stars all on the same screen.

This movie definitely isn't for young kids, teenage boys should be with an adult, and even grown ups should be careful that they can take some of the violence.... I could and came out with a smile on my face. I am glad that the R rating didn't give Stallone a blank check to use for sexuality and nudity. There wasn't any. There was some foul and offensive language, but nowhere near as much as Green Zone, and for the most part it was used for effect! (Not an excuse, but it worked for me...) This movie was pretty much non stop action until the final take! I had a lot of fun!

I rate this movie 4 1/2 Schnauzers out of 7!

In future posts, I will make sure to bring you a larger mix of Family friendly fare, but I needed to get this genre out of my system. Thank you for that...

I would love to hear from anybody who has seen a movie due to my recommendations - how did I do?

Until next time, plant your butt in a comfy chair, stuff your mouth with some popcorn and watch a good movie!

  1. No kidding, I had JUST put Green Zone in my Netflix queue right before I read this. I think I'll take it off. And I'll add The Expendables, cause you made that sound pretty good. I can handle tons of action if there's a little humor tossed in.

  5. Thanks for the warning on the Green Zone, I'll be skipping that one! And I think I'll send my husband to the Expendables without me. :)
