So Long, Friend

Dear Summer,

I feel like you let me down. Or maybe I let you down. Either way, we didn't get it all done, did we? We didn't go camping, we didn't make a single s'more, we never heard the tinkling music of an ice-cream truck.

And we won't get another shot until next year. It makes me sad.

But it wasn't all a fail. We did accomplish some pretty awesome things. Hiking, parades, amusement parks, fireworks, and something like ten birthday parties. I guess we did okay.

I'm just sad that you're gone. There are so many snow filled months looming ahead of me, and I'll miss your warm afternoons with yellow-tinted breezes, your nightly nature symphonies, and your cool treats.

But autumn will help me through my grieving for you. She'll bring peaches and crunchy leaves and hooded sweatshirts that wrap me in a warm hug that will remind me of you, and that you're waiting, just a few dark months away.

Until June,
Bethany

  1. I always get a little depressed when summer comes to an end. We get so little sunshine around here (you know how that goes), I need to mentally psych my self up for months of drizzle and dreariness.

And seriously, what's up with the lack of ice cream man appearances this summer?? I think your ice cream man and mine might have gone on vacation together.

  2. I am so right there with you. Summer came too late and is on her way out the door without asking my permission. I say "NO..DON'T GO"!!

Yes..we have had our fill of camping and s'moring...but WE WANT MORE!!

p.s. I think you really must roast at least one S'more...even if it's over your stove! M'Kay?!

  3. It also makes me sad that summer is coming to an end. I can see signs of it already. Mainly the lack of sunlight keeps coming earlier and earlier. I love being able to walk around with the kids during the evening when there's still a hint of light.
You guys look like you had a great summer.

  4. Man, I love fall but I wish that snow would be required to stop on January 1st. That part just goes on way too long.

  5. I am thrilled summer is over, but have some of those same wistful feelings of not having done everything we wanted to. It looks like you had your share of fun!

  6. Oh, I love it, Bethany! And all the pics were a nice touch! You are so tiny and to see 4 boys around you...they could totally gang up and revolt someday! Ha!

I love me some hooded sweatshirts, too!

  7. What a wonderful Ode to Summer! I've had my fill though - I'm not a fan of the heat and we've had some whoppers here this year. I'm definitely ready for fall. But, we were able to do quite a few fun summer activities, and it sounds like you guys were too.
    Love all the pics!

  8. I am feeling the same way this morning, regret for what we didn't do this summer...but remembering the things we DID do. You pictures are wonderful.

We have had such a mild summer, and now this week when the kids go back? It's expected to be 105 today. And summer's over. What???!

  11. I'm kinda sniffling over here. That was so sad. Beautiful but sad. As sick as this sounds, my mourning began at the Summer Solstice when my husband was kind enough to remind me that each day gets darker from here on out. Thanks, honey.

  12. Summer's my favorite. By August I always say I'm done with it and can't wait for fall, but I always end up missing it the second it starts cooling down.
