Walk A Mile...

A few days ago, I alluded to the new feature which I'm introducing today.

Sometimes I find myself sitting in my car at a stoplight, waiting my turn to move on with my busy life, and I look over at the car next to me and see the driver. A stranger with a thousand stories. Every one of them looks different. And every time, I wonder. I wonder things like, What caused that sparkle in her eye? Where is he going? Where has he come from? What makes her look so lost? Who is this person?

Walk a Mile was born of that desire to step outside myself and learn something about another person's life. To walk a mile in their shoes. To understand things that I previously did not, to peek into a life different than my own, to see the struggles and triumphs of people I might pass on the street every day, to discover similarities between myself and others that I never knew possible, to experience humanity and life in a completely different way, if only for a minute.

Each Monday I will host a guest writer who will tell us a little bit about their life. We're going to meet some amazing people. Tomorrow, we'll get a glimpse into the world of Foster Care . In the weeks following, we'll meet an Army wife who's husband is on a year long deployment, a medical volunteer who makes trips to help the still struggling people of Haiti, a couple of young college students, and many others who will certainly have an effect on me, each in his own way. I hope they will for you, too.

And then, of course, I'll go back to my regularly scheduled sarcasm Tuesday through Saturday.

So grab a button from the sidebar if you like, and I'll see you back here tomorrow for our very first Walk a Mile experience!

  4. Bethany, I absolutely LOVE this idea! I am facinated by random people and often wonder what makes them tick, what's different about their life. I do that in the grocery store, the bank, and at traffic lights too! I look forward to it, and I grabbed your cool button!

Liked your story about your son peeing in a bottle in your car.

We nicknamed one of sons "old fatihful" Oh my that boy could pee and needed to pee every 1/2 hour. In a traffic jam once we ened up having him a big gulp cup.

    Fun memories!
