I'll be honest. Some days I feel like my job sucks big, hairy monkey balls. (Sorry Mom.) But most days I love it. Why? I'll tell you why. And in a top ten list, no less. (Idea courtesy of Mama Kat's Weekly Writing Prompts.)
Top Ten Reasons Why I Love Being A Stay At Home Mom
#10 - The break time snacks rock, and I never need to find exact change for a vending machine.
#9 - I am my own boss, and I get to boss around four kids, plus a husband, plus a nephew three days a week. I am a powerful woman.
#8 - The dress code is loose. I can wear pajamas all day long if I want to.
#7 - I get to be present to witness all of my kids' firsts. Like the first time Ethan called his brother an ass.
#6 - I never have to drop my kids off at daycare and know they might feel that heavy homesick feeling of missing mom.
#5 - I get to eat macaroni and cheese for lunch. Oh, wait... Let me go puke for a while...
#4 - I get to play teacher this year, which means that I can force my sons to make paper mache butterflies if I want to, and then tease them about it later on.
#3 - When the cosmos align just so, I get to take naps.
#2 - I can add to my job description anything I want. Photographer, creative chef, artist, decorator, literary critic... And I can find the time to do it all, if I really want to. Sometimes the lure of #3 wins out, though.
And the #1 reason I love my job? Seeing these cute faces every second of the day...
Fantastic list! So true...the cosmos must align to get any sleep around here. Is this your first year homeschooling?
ReplyDeleteYou just gave me a much needed laugh! And I am very, very impressed that you ever find time to nap..do tell. Whiskey in their juice? NyQuil popsicles? I really need to know. 4 hours a night just ain't cuttin it.
ReplyDeleteGetting 5 kids to settle down enough for you to take a nap? Yeah, there's definitely got to me some cosmic alignment going on there. You're pretty amazing to balance all of that.
ReplyDeleteI am very jealous of your job. When my husband gets a new job, I think I might start angling to take yours.
ReplyDeleteGreat list. Cute kids. I can't wait to be a mom someday! :)
ReplyDeleteI would like to make paper mache butterflies, please.
ReplyDeleteYour boys are adorable! I can't wait to have your job!
ReplyDeleteLoL Nice! I do envy the naps. I keep advocating for implementing "siesta" in America, but so far it's not going anywhere. Hmph.
ReplyDeleteI feel like I hit the lottery when I get to take a nap, but sometimes it doesn happen.
ReplyDeleteI love that you were there to hear those special first "you are an ass" words....ahhh, music to a mom's ears. But the future blackmail you are scoring with paper mache butterflies? Priceless!
ReplyDeleteOn a side note (my junk-candy twin) I had some Giant Chewy Nerds yesterday....like blobs of Nerd Rope. Thought of you.
I love the dress code. That's probably pretty much at the top of my list. Ha!
ReplyDeleteaw, jeez. it's the hardest job on the planet. you deserve a raise!
ReplyDeleteI'm a lil bit jealous of #7. Not gonna lie.
I love the dress code too! And not being on any type of schedule. And I can't wait for the "you're an ass" first!

ReplyDeleteI'm also jealous of your job - most of it anyway! Especially the dress code. I miss jeans....
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great reminders!
ReplyDeleteWho knew...we've got the same job!! ;) I love it too...on most days. ANd then there are THOSE days...you know the ones!!
ReplyDeleteWhat sweet faces!! I bow down to you...Oh Mother of FOUR boys!!

Love your list, really, I want a (payed) job like this!
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous! I feel like a stay at home loser now that the boys are in school! And to have four boys, lucky dog!
ReplyDeleteThere's a lady that I see every day when I pick the boys up and she's pushing a stroller with two babies in it and one little guy that either walks or rides on the back.
I bite my tongue as she walks by, so that she doesn't start to fear for the safety of her kids. I want to yell at her and tell her how lucky she is and how she'd better enjoy it, becaue it won't last forever.
I'm turning into a crazy person at home all by myself!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE being a stay at home mommy!!! Best job in the entire universe (and the hardest too)!!
