Pass Me A Joint

Since being here, in La Center, for a really long time past when we thought we would be, (thank you tax audit), Andrew and I have seen a lot of people that we haven't talked to since we lived in this area four years ago.  And inevitably, they ask our kids what their names are.

Everything goes fine until Drew tells people his name.

"Doobie."

We often call Drew "Drewby", and the kid has no idea his name is actually Andrew. Unfortunately, he also can't pronounce his R's, and so it sounds like we named him after the recreational drug we were using when we conceived him.

We weren't, and we didn't, but that's what it sounds like.

You should see the looks we get.

Ever regret the names you gave your kids?  I have.  I can't wait until Trent can talk well enough to tell people his name is "Chunks".

  2. I was just thinking about you today. I'm so glad you're back! How have you been??

So far, we've been okay with nicknames. My husband just taught our 2 yr old daughter his name and now she yells it in random places. And it sounds like some kind of toddler swear word instead of his actual name. Pretty funny.

  3. Hey you!! Happy to see you around here today...with your doobie and all. Now that's a funny nickname there! Probably went over great in Utah?

We've called our son Pumpkin Head at home for years, but luckily for him that name doesn't leave the house.

  4. That is hilarious. Gunnar now informs people that his name is "Gun" when asked, which gets us some strange looks, too!

  6. I think people are probably pretty doobie-ous that you called him Doobie for real (sorry couldn't resist!) :)

  7. I love this Bethany. Last night I was walking out the door with the little boy I nanny, and I go "let's blow this joint" and for the first time in my life I was suddenly aware of the alternate meaning for that phrase. I'm dumb. But I guess I finally figured it out because I was checking what was coming out of my mouth because the mom was there, and the little boy's guitar teacher who literally leaves a cloud of pot smoke behind him wherever he goes (he's a lot of fun) had just left

  14. So funny. Claire used to tell people her name was Pickle -- which is what Matt always called her when she was little. :)
