The Joys Of Processed Food

Now that I've gotten that weight off my chest, (and thank you, everyone, for your comments), lets get back to the good ol' Organic Enchilada norm. The heavy, life altering, important stuff.

Like Chef Boyardee.

Because everyone was getting sick of PB&J, I opened a can of Chef Boyardee Beef Ravioli the other day for my kids to eat for lunch, and eekgads, the smell! I am pretty sure I opened a can of dog food.

Seriously, I wondered if Pedigree and the Chef share the same manufacturing plant and they just switch the labels every other day.

No one ate the ravioli that day, but several chunks of it were flung against the wall in protest.

It got me to thinking about the food we all feed our kids and how we all take such different approaches to it.

I am not a very green person. I turn the water off while I brush my teeth, but I refuse to leave a toilet full of urine waiting for someone to come along with a deuce to make it worth flushing. We flush after every use, thankyouverymuch.

I don't buy organic things, (ironic blog name, huh?), because frankly, I don't give a damn. It's more expensive and I've had doctors tell me that buying organic will extend your life by about two weeks. I'm sure there are doctors out there who would tell me otherwise, but I choose to believe the one who tells me what I want to hear. Don't we all?

Anyway, I've gotten off track.

But before we get back on track, I would like to take a moment to once again state that hormone ridden beef will save your daughters the expense and pain of breast augmentation in later life, and also that it's possible that all the preservatives in our food are the real reason we're all living so much longer than our ancestors. Think about it.

Back to business - I think that a lot of processed food is disgusting from it's fake cheese to it's questionable meat products. But there are a few which I love with every taste bud I've got. Most especially Totino's Pizza Rolls.

They are some kind of delicious; I can eat about twenty of them without thinking a thing of it. That's why my butt jiggles when I walk. Well, I guess it's that plus copious amounts of Dr. Pepper.

There is a veritable plethora of processed food options out there for all of us to indulge in or adamantly abstain from. Please tell me some that you will love forever and those which you will never partake of for fear of adverse reactions.

Please? (Cause I want to know which ones I'm missing and which ones I am correctly avoiding.)

  1. Found you through the blog hop. I am also a HUGE fan of Totino's Pizza Rolls. Yum. And those bean and cheese burritos that come frozen? Love those.

  2. I can sit and eat a bag of Chester's Puffcorn all by myself and if I have a diet coke to go with it I'm in Heaven!

  3. Love this post. I could eat Spicy Cheetos until my gut bursts. I don't even care that my fingers are stained orange for days! As for what to avoid, I will always avoid fish sticks. It doesn't matter if they're minced or not - that's just nasty.

  4. Cheezits rule in this house. Right now we have 3 boxes in our pantry, one for myself, my husband and our son. Only our daughter is the abstainer.

She likes Chex mix, which is a plethora of pure goodness! YUM!

  5. heehee...I think I have some Pizza Rolls in my freezer calling my name. For me it's the sweets: Twix and Golden Oreos especially.

I would never go down that road: Cheeze Whiz (do they even still make that stuff? YUCK!) and SPAM.

I have to fess up: due to septic problems we have had to follow the golden rule "if it's yellow, let it mellow" as disgusting as it may be.

  6. I was cracking up reading the beginning of your post, because last week there was a recall on Spagettios because the "meat" was undercooked......yeah, they did call it meat.

I don't buy soda on a regular basis, but if you put a cold Dr. Pepper in front of me I can't turn it down! Maybe that's why I don't buy it.....by far, my favorite soda! And I do have to admit to loving Golden Oreos like Lindsay....

  7. I love Cheetos, Doritos, & Raspberry Ice Tea! I can't live without them...

  8. Umm. . . i think it would have to be Doritos. . . though I could likely live without them, too.

  9. I quite possibly could live on those pizza rolls! And Cheez-Its. And Diet Coke. There are too many to name!

  10. Just go watch Food Inc, and I think you're mind will start to change. :)

  11. Liz - no way. I am happy in my ignorance!

All you Dorito lovers are really speaking to me! I never count them as one of my favorites until I eat one and remember that eating one equals a burning need to eat the whole bag.

And I'm glad to find that there are other grown-ups who love those pizza rolls! I always thought I was kind of a freak for it.

  12. One of my only food rules is nothing processed. I'm not super into organic; I just hit the middle ground between them.

  13. I'm a flusher too! If it's brown it must go down, pshhhaw, if you made it, I don't want to see it!

I love a Coke in one of those little glass bottles. It's a problem, because I want to drink three or four just to quench my thirst.

  14. LOVE - Jalepeno Poppers, Mozzarella Cheese sticks - oh, and hidden valley ranch dressing to dip in.

  15. Mmmm...Jalapeno Poppers! Those are the best! I haven't found a version of mozzarella sticks from the freezer section that i like, but the ones at Arby's and especially Red Robin are perfect!

LL - I am not entirely sure if I've ever had a Coke from a glass bottle. Henry Weinharts rootbeer, yes. I'll have to try that.

And Maureen, I love the blueberry and the s'mores.

    Anyone else got the munchies?

  16. Now i want to go to Red Robin for Mozz sticks. Thanks a lot guys.

  17. You've hidden the plathora so well and so natural...
I also think that in some factories, they just change labels and sell one and the same product cheap or expensive.

  18. My weak spot is anything sweet. Anything. Cakes, cookies, candy...you name it, I love it. So not much in the way of actual processed foods though. I do a lot of cooking (I like to), and mostly it's fresh stuff.

  19. I love Little Debbie Swiss Cake rolls!! It's impossible to eat just one. I suppose that is why there are 2 in a pack. YUMMO, and chock full of un-natural goodness!!

I thought your comment on preservatives was very thought provoking! Makes sense to me! ha ha

  20. Um... I've got a pretty extensive list. I'll try to condense: Winco gummy worms!!! Definitely #1! There's a reason they sell candy by the pound there... peanut butter twix, for sure, Mountain Dew, Peanut M&Ms, and-yes, I know they're bad for you-Monster energy drinks. Especially the M-80 flavor. Oh, and every kind of cereal. As far as staying away from things... I know there's one thing, but I can't remember what it is right now... Haha! I LOVE food! :D

  21. O.M.G. I love pizza rolls. They are like popping pills.

That being said, I have made a concerted effort over the last year to take out processed food from our diets. So most of my one-favorite things are now taboo (I do not buy organic, just trying to maybe ensure my kid doesn't grow a third boob). I also used to love Stouffer's French Bread Pizza. And I love crispy tater tots, and won't get rid of them.

thanks for coming by my blog..following you now!
