I sat here and started writing about why I'm burned out for Mama Kat's writer's workshop - and then I realized what a sissy little wimp I sounded like. Yeah, I'm getting ready to move 800 miles away with my family of six only two days after Christmas and I have to homeschool them at the same time while keeping the house clean enough to show to potential renters "at a moment's notice" per my evil landlord's request....but so what? People do harder things than that every day. I've got it easy, so I'm not going to gripe about anything.
Instead, I'm going to tell you about all the things that are keeping me from offing myself every day.
My husband - because he laughs at all the wrong places in movies and calls periodically during the day to make sure I haven't killed anyone yet.
My house has been puke free for 80 hours.
Those misdemeanors my Eagle Scout husband got have been paid for via bail forfeiture and are now filed under "case closed". But he still has that record. Which, if it weren't for the back-woods nature of the charges, would totally turn me on.
I filled my Netflix queue with Christmas movies. But not nearly enough - so if you have some suggestions, leave a comment, please.
My kid beat me at Battle Ship today, and not because I let him.
One of my kids thinks I'm a better driver than my husband. There were only two kids voting though. The youngest ones don't care who drives better as long as we pull into a drive-through at some point. Andrew got a unanimous vote for the best grilled-cheese, which just means I don't have to make those anymore. I love taking random polls to see who my kids like best. (But you shouldn't do it if you aren't willing to laugh at the answers.)
All my dishes are done right now. ALL of them. And that alone gives me reason to get up in the morning.
What!!!!!! You are moving??? How did I miss that one. Where are you going, and why??? Man, what a drag moving in the winter. New adventures though -- that will be exciting.
ReplyDeleteAre you taking a writer's workshop?? I would so love that. How fun if you are. You have such a gift. I'm seriously hoping that you write a book about growing up with your sisters. Love it when you write about that.
And a big thank you for your comment about my picture. I absolutely hate posting pictures of myself -- huge step for me, putting that on my blog. But I thought it was about time since most people probably think I'm thin and tall with brown hair. :) Just the opposite in fact. And now you know. :)
And P.S. my favorite Christmas movies . . . The Bishop's Wife with Carey Grant, and of course White Christmas with Bing Crosby. I'm guessing that both of those are on your list.
ReplyDeleteBeing puke free is always a good reason to continue living. I HATE moving around Christmas. It totally sucks the joy out of the holiday. Good luck! It will be crazy, but for some reason I think you would enjoy getting out of Mormon-ville. True? :)
ReplyDeleteWe're moving early next year and I'm pretty much dreading all the packing and unpacking and actually moving. Although, I will be so happy to be in a new place. We're only moving one town over and buying new furniture when we get there though so it shouldn't be too bad.
ReplyDeleteMy current favorite Christmas movie (for the past few years running) is Elf. I'm also kind of partial to The Santa Clause but don't tell anyone because I'm a little embarrassed I like that one so much. The sequels weren't nearly as cute or funny but if they are on tv, I won't lie, I watch them.
Elf and Home Alone are my favorite Christmas movies. SANTAAAAAAAAAA! I KNOW HIM!
ReplyDeleteLMBO at gopopgo's comment. I love that movie so much.
ReplyDeleteALL your dishes are done? You lucky girl!
And I love that you are taking random polls to determine your kids favorites. It's not necessary in my house. My boys tell my husband on a daily basis that they don't like him. :-0
I'm sure you have A Christmas Story in your list--right? If not give it a try. I also love White Christmas. And the classic Miracle on Thirty-fourth Street.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the move and hold tight to your sanity and think, by the end of January all will be well--right?
I think the bail would be a wee bit higher if you actually off someone...if you snap, make sure it's on the landlord.
ReplyDeleteLove Actually is the best movie EVER...also my most favourite "can use a quote from this movie in any of life's events" movie is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
ReplyDeleteAlso having a sink with no dishes in it makes me feel all Randy...what does that mean? I'm sure you know.
when kids legitimately beat a parent in a game, that's a significant turning of the tide, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteWhat is it like to have all the dishes done? I've never experienced that...
ReplyDeleteOne of the greatest Christmas movies ever is Gremlins. People try to tell me that it isn't a Christmas movie, and if you are one of those people may I suggest that you watch it again!
ReplyDeleteWow...you do have a lot going on right now, it's a good thing you have such a great sense of humor!
ReplyDeleteWishing you luck through your move!
I think you need to add a few more things to you "to do" list.
ReplyDeleteI missed it. Where are you moving to?
Good luck.
You're moving?? That's stressful enough by itself, not even counting the kids and the TIMING! Brave woman. Maybe you can figure out a game like you did with those apples in the backyard where you get your kids to start chucking things into boxes and think it's a game! :)
ReplyDeleteI love that you count the hours since the last puke. It makes me think of those signs: "__days without an accident". Hilarious! :)
Moving two days after Christmas... and letting your kids vote on random "who's best" polls? You are a brave, brave woman.
ReplyDeleteWhere ya headed???
ReplyDeleteAnd please don't "off" yourself. We would miss you greatly. So there is one more reason!
Well, let's see. I can't find one thing in your list that's doable in my world, so you are not only burned out but a hero. Not a sissy.
ReplyDeleteI still can't believe you guys are moving, and I can't wait to follow your story...'cause you will make it so funny. Well, it might not be funny as you are living it, but we will enjoy your stories!
Hang in there!
