Two Fridays ago I went to a Goo Goo Dolls concert at a casino near the Oregon coast. I was supposed to go with my husband, but he came down with a man cold, so I took my sister instead. (Graci, Nan.)
The concert looked like this:
And sounded like this, sort-of. There's some weird distortion going on. Also, my camera sucks:
And through the entire thing I felt like this:
Yep, that "man cold" turned out to be the flu, which I had. I pretty much almost died, but it was worth it because Goo Goo Dolls sound really good live, (even whilst yaking up a lung), and now I don't have to say that the only concert I've ever been to was The Dixie Chicks. Because up until two Fridays ago, that was a true story.
Why The Dixie Chicks? Well, it wasn't my fault, and that's all I'm saying.
Do you realize that The Goo Goo Dolls came out with their first album 15 years ago?? And for that reason, I should not have been shocked that 98% of the people attending the concert were overweight, over-the-hill, and bald. But it did surprise me, and it was depressing, too.
But I was right there with them.
Ugh. Now I feel like I have to go watch Wheel of Fortune.
We saw the Goo Goo Dolls open up for Bon Jovi like 8 or so years ago...*insert stuck in the 80's hairband dream here*
ReplyDeleteI feel so old now. Most people that I like are too old to tour. They're playing the day room at Sunny Oaks Retirement Home, I guess.
ReplyDeleteMy first concert was so long ago that Guns and Roses was opening for Motley Crew and Tommy Lee did that drum solo with the whole drum cage in the air and spinning. My fifteen year old self thought he was the second coming.
Sorry you were feeling so bad, the flu just stinks! We had a bout recently too. Not fun! Hope you're all better now!
Oh no. It's pretty hard to enjoy a concert when you have the flu. Hopefully you are over it now. Love the drawing!
ReplyDeleteWe went to see Collective Soul last summer and I remarked about the crowd being on the older side... Then I realized I was one of them. Egad.
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with Wheel of Fortune?? ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you ever so much for the last minute concert invite - it was a blast and was worth the plague that I caught from you.
ReplyDeleteThey do sound awesome live, and I'm still in complete amazement that he sang the entire concert while chewing gum. I had previously thought that impossible - color me impressed!
Personally, I like it when I go to something like that and everyone is old and fat. It makes me feel so much better that I'm not the only one. You can't imagine my joy when I reconnected with the heart-throb of my high school class on Facebook and saw that he, too, had become old, fat and very bald.
ReplyDeleteYou can't be serious...they've actually been around THAT LONG???
ReplyDeleteCrap, now I feel like I'd better reserve that space at the early bird dinner at the local diner.
But hey, at least you went to a concert?!
Sheesh, some of you are shocked that their first HIT song, not the first album came out 15 years ago? As a band, the Goo Goo Dolls have been together 25 years, and have proven that their music evolves and stands the test of time.
ReplyDeleteWell, even the lead singer said that he marked his time as 15 years, but I suppose it doesn't really matter. They've been around a lot longer than most of the bands today will be.
