I remember.
I hated field day with all of my heart. Just another opportunity to feel like a fool and get sweaty. And when it was all over, I got to take home a blue ribbon that stated I was a phenomenal participant. Loser, in other words.
Well, gone are the days of races and ball tosses. Or at least for my kids. Nowadays Field Day means giant inflated obstacle courses, bounce houses, ice blocking, slides, and in the afternoon - a fire truck will come and cool them all down. I think I even saw a snow cone stand, but that could have been my imagination.
Do your kids have Carnival/Field Day, too, or are mine some of the lucky few?
is that a bandana or a sweat band? we never had field day, but my mom's school did, as does my friend who works for the chicago public school. i think it would be a great way to end the school year!
ReplyDeleteWOW! I want to live there! No we do not have field day like that! The PTA must have some awesome fundraisers to afford a day like that! LUCKY!
ReplyDeleteThat looks insanely cool! Do they let the parents play, too?
ReplyDeleteMy kindergartener's field day is next week. Now you've got me wondering if his will be this "decked out"!!
ReplyDeleteOh WOW, is that what Field Day looks like these days??? I am like you and only experienced the potato sack race and various jumping games variety of Field Day. Kids are so lucky these days.
ReplyDeleteMy son didn't have that. It looks like fun!
ReplyDeleteWe have a "mega party" for the kids that's parents sell/buy bunches of fundraiser crap. We have all the inflatables and stuff and snow cones. And the poor kids who didn't sell anything don't get to come. Every year, I spend $100 for 10 dollar tree items so my kids can go. It's such a racket.
ReplyDeleteBut, we do have field day, the competitive one and it's fun for the kids. I'm like you, I always got the "good sport" ribbon. Which translates into the "you sorta suck" award.
My child is too young to have the verdict on this for sure but I can say a) I did love the parachute part of field day. I was a sucker for being tossed in the air like popcorn. b) I'm really jealous of your kids.
